Awakening of the Heart by Song Ting Kee dated 30.11.14

Bro. Song based his sermon on the following verses:

Mark 4:35-41, Act 16:25-34, John 9:1-3.

Bro. Song started by sharing a little story about himself when he was a young student.  His teacher asked him what was his elder sister doing.  Bro. Song replied he did not know.  The teacher told him, “you are good for nothing!”.  He was very hurt, and till this day he still remembered this story.  How would you feel?

Story of Nick Vujicic

Nick was born without any limbs.  His grandparents and his parents were from former Czechoslovakia.  His grandparents were devout Christians.  When Nick was born, his mother did not want to see him because he was without limbs. She questioned why this happened to her?  However, both sets of Nick’s grandparents volunteered to take care of Nick.  As Nick grew and as a teenager he found life meaningless and he told his younger brother that he will commit suicide when he is 21 years old.  His father heard of his intention, and confronted him.  His father shared that he loves him and he will take care of him no matter what happened.  Nick than changed his mind.  By age 19 years he was baptized.  One day he was invited to a church to share and he saw a young boy just like him, without limbs.  The mother of this boy went and hugged Nick, telling him he is like the son she is going to have when her own son grew up.  Nick was touched and tears came.  His heart was awakened and he realized that he can make an impact on people’s lives.  Nick has been going around the world sharing his testimony of God’s love.  He has no limbs and yet can do so much, certainly with all our limbs we can doing something for others too.  God has plan for us Jeremiah 29:11

Salvation Army

Bro. Song and many of our church brothers and sisters have been helping the children at the Salvation Army by giving them tuition.  He shared the story of a girl who was very rebellious and did not want to cooperate with the teachers.  This was due to her broken family background.  Nevertheless, Bro. Song and the others showed their love for her and continue to teach her despite the difficulties.  Few years ago she came in number 30 in a class of 36.  But last year she came in 3rd!  Praise God.  Bro. Song and the others have been encouraging her and getting her to set subject grade goals, and she managed to achieve these goals.  Formerly when Bro. Song wanted to pray for her she refused, but through the years she has come to know Jesus and often asked for prayers.

Teachers Training College

Bro.  Song and Sis. Georgina are mentoring the teachers at the teachers training college.  They share the Gospel with them guide them and encourage them.  They will be the future “missionaries” when they are posted to the interiors.  Bro. Song also encouraged these teachers to teach the children at Salvation Army.  He found that many of these trainees found that they useful.  They also got trained while helping these children.

A school in Alaska

In this school the drop-out rate was 50% and that is very high.  To encourage the students to stay the school built a football field.  But Alaska is frozen most of the time and there was no grass, and the children had to play on hard ground.  A teacher heard about the plight of this Alaskan school, she took upon herself to raise thousands to build a proper field for this school.  As a result of her effort, the children there have a football field with artificial grass on it so that they do not have to play on hard ground.

Disability Camp

A girl of 12 years old was sent by her mother to a disability camp, but she refused to go fervently but her mother insisted of her going.  Finally she went.   As she stepped out of the bus a man with down syndrome came and hugged her.  She was surprised because she would not have done that with people she first met.  But this man showed her what is love.  During the camp, she was attached to this man and later she shared that she learnt so much from a person who is supposed to be a disable.  In subsequent years she volunteered herself at this camp.
